Death anniversary of Haji Abdul Gani Veeri observed

SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The 3rd death anniversary of late Haji Abdul Gani Shah Veeri was observed today at Anantnag.
Besides National Conference, many literary and social organizations including Maraz Adbi Sangam , Bazmi Khadim, Civil Society and CPI(M) paid rich tributes to late political, social and religious leader.
A function was held at the official residence of Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri in which people from different walks of life paid rich tributes to Haji Abdul Gani Shah Veeri and highlighted his contributions for the people of the State.
Veeri was a man of principles. Being closely associated with Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, Veeri struggled for the emancipation of common masses including peasantry. Veeri was incarcerated several times during plebiscite demand from 1953 onwards. Such was the impact of his popularity on ground that he defeated former CM Mufti Mohammad Syed twice and remained representative of Bijbehara for three consecutive times.
Among others who spoke on the occasion include NC leaders Peerzada Gulam Ahmad Shah, Dr Shafi, MLA Pahalgam Altaf Kaloo, MLA Home Shali Bug Abdul Majeed Larmi, Sabdar Ali Khab (Kulgam) Shabir Kulay (Shopian) Gulam Mohiud Din (CPIM) Journalist Murtaza Shubli, Writer and Poet Aijaz Ghulam Mohammad Laloo and Farooq Shameeri.
Earlier floral tributes were paid at the ‘mazar’ of late Haji Sahab and a Duaaiya Majlis was held at Veeri. NC Leader Sakina Itoo paid rich tributes to late leader and described the late leader as a legend and a guide.
