Dealer booked for selling underweight cement bags

SRINAGAR, Oct 31: Legal Metrology Department booked a dealer for selling underweight cement bags.
According to Assistant Controller Kupwara, Muzafar Wani, on a surprise checking of the Kupwara market it was found that the TCI Cement manufactured by Tramboo Industries Limited was short by 2 to 3 kgs for each bag.
The declared quantity on the packaged bags of cement was 50 kgs for each bag however on weighing they were found to be only 47 to 48 kgs, he added.
He stated that noticing the violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 all the stock was seized under seizure memo number 8283 and the Challan was formulated by involving the Manufacturers, Supplier and the Dealer of the Cement.
In the meanwhile the manufacturers were directed to withdraw all the underweight cement from the market with immediate effect and the consumers were asked to buy the cement only after conducting its proper weight.
In another case a prominent IOC Gas Agency dealer of Kupwara was fined for Rupees 8,000 for violating the legal metrology norms.
