Deadline for illegal constructions

Subjected to unrelenting pressure by the High Court and mounting demand from the public, the Government finally made up its mind and issued a directive that no unauthorized structures raised after ending December 31, 2016 will be considered for regularization in future. By regularizing is meant providing mandatory civic facilities and other relevant facilities under town planning like roads, parks, bus stands, play grounds and space for social meets etc. For a long time the Government had been at work what to do with a spate of raising unauthorized buildings. Actually, the Municipal Corporation, Housing Board and JDA all were unable to break the jinx. The real reason behind their unsuccessful attempts of controlling the aberration was that there is tremendous political and official interference in the matter and vested interests are able to capitalize on it. Now, a comprehensive policy about eviction and removal of unauthorised structures has been announced. We welcome it and hope that the clauses of the order will be implemented in letter and in spirit and not made something like eyewash.
