DDOs asked to deduct insurance premium from salary of employees

JAMMU, June 29: For the renewal of Group Janta Personal Accidental Insurance Policy for second year from July 16, 2015, the State Government has directed all the DDOs in different departments to deduct the annual premium from salaries of the employees.
According to a circular, issued by the State Finance Department, all the DDOs shall deduct an amount of Rs 141 on account of premium from the salaries of the employees for the month of June 2015 and remit the same into the Government treasuries.
It may be recalled that the State Government had accorded sanction to the tie up of Group Janta Personal Accidental Insurance Policy with M/s Oriental Insurance Company Ltd for a period of three years commencing from July 17, 2014 midnight on annual renewal basis.
The policy shall cover an aggregate of 3.40 lac employees of all categories working in the State Government Departments, PSUs, Autonomous Bodies and shall also include the Daily Rated Workers, Consolidated/ Contractual /Adhoc employees and the SPOs.
The sum insured under the policy is Rs 5 lakh per employee against payment of a yearly premium of Rs 141/- inclusive of taxes of Rs 16.
Since the policy is compulsory in nature, it shall be personal responsibility and liability of the DDOs/HoD/ MDs/CEOs/ Registrars of the universities to register every employee under the scheme so that no one is left out.
