DDC reviews devolution of powers to Panchayats

REASI, Jan 29: Reviewing status of devolution of powers to Panchayats in Reasi, Mahore, Arnas and Pouni blocks, District Development Commissioner Reasi Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary held an interactive session with officers of 14 line departments.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Tilak Raj Shastri, ACD Joginder Singh Rai, District Panchyat Officer Rohit Sharma  and sectoral and district officers of all line departments including Block Development Officers from Reasi, Mahore, Arnas and Pouni were also present in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that there is a need to further gear up in the direction of transfer of powers and capacity building of Panchayat members so that they utilise these powers fully.
He stressed upon the officers to ensure involvement of PRIs in monitoring, supervision of institutions apart from works and activities being undertaken by the departments.     He said that PRIs must be given due consideration in identification of beneficiaries under different schemes of respective departments. He also directed the officers to consult PRIs in formulation of Annual Action Plan for the year 2014-15 so that development of rural and far flung areas could be made as per the aspirations of the people.
Dr Choudhary impressed upon the officers to convene block level meetings in coordination with the PRIs for which a schedule has already been circulated among the departments. He said that the meetings help in dissemination of information among the public and their representatives and redressal of public grievances on the spot.
The officer also directed Agriculture, Horticulture and other allied departments to redouble their efforts in dissemination of Information and latest technology among the farming community so as to boost their socio-economic condition.
