DCM protests over dishonor of statues of Jyotirao, Krantijyoti

JAMMU, June 20: All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch today organized a protest demonstration here at Press Club regarding dishonor of statues of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Krantijyoti Savitiri Bai Phule at village Chak Desa in Kathua district.
Sham Lal Basson, President, Dalit Chetna Manch (DCM), said that this incident is a national shame. He said that Savitiri Bai Phule was an Indian social reformer, educationalist and poet. Along with her husband, Jyotirao Phule, she played an important role in improving women’s rights in India during British rule, he said, adding, that Jyotirao Phule was an Indian social activist, a thinker, anti-caste social reformer and a writer from Maharashtra. He worked for upliftment of labour class and farmers.
Basson said that miscreants who dishonoured the statues are ignorant about history of this couple. They have ashamed the whole country. They have hurt the sentiments of people of this country in general and SC/ST/OBCs in particular. “Deputy Commissioner and Sr. Superintendent of Police of Kathua should take it serious, arrest the culprits and send them behind bars”, he demanded.
Prominent among those who took part in the protest were RL Dogra (president, All J&K Gardi Mahasabha), Sunita Bangotra (president, Savitiri Bai Phule Mahila Sangathan), Vijay Magotra (All J&K Mahasha Sadhar Sabha), Bharat Hans (All J&K Valmiki Sadhar Sabha), Bahadur Lal (Saryara Sabha, Bahu Fort) and Narinder Dutt Bhagat (All J&K Mehg Sudhar Sabha).
