DC visits relief camps, assures all support to migrants

RAJOURI, July 14: District Development Commissioner, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today visited the relief camps in Nowshera area and took stock of arrangements being put in place for the migrants due to continuous shelling and ceasefire violation.
During visit the DDC was informed that the camps are currently housing 839 migrant families which include a total of 3361 individuals from different villages of Surya, Khamba, Anas Bandar and Bhavani.
The DDC was apprised that 12.25 quintals of sugar, 437.46 quintals of wheat and 170.45 quintals of rice had been distributed among the migrants so far.
On the occasion, people informed the DDC of various issues confronting them at the camps and sought his immediate intervention in construction of bunkers in affected areas, proper communication facilities in border villages, ensuring education of students besides rehabilitation of disturbed families at safe places in Nowshera .
While responding to the demand of relief, the DDC said that a committee has already been formulated to assess day to day expenditure incurred on each migrant so that a reasonable amount of relief could be fixed.
DDC also informed migrants that district administration is committed to provide hassle free communication services in the border areas and a BSNL tower had already been sanctioned for Ladouka village. He directed SDM Nowshera to identify more such shadow areas so that mobile towers could be arranged for better mobile connectivity in these areas.
The DDC directed the local college authorities to retain 4 class rooms for the 11th and 12th migrant students for their stay and conduct their classes between 7.30 AM to 10.30 AM. The DDC also instructed the SDM and Deputy CEO to prepare an action plan suggesting what best could be done to ensure the education of students in the relief camps.
DDC also apprised the migrants that the construction of 100 bunkers had been approved and needful will be initiated in the matter by earliest. He instructed the BDO Nowshera to ensure community participation in the construction of best quality all weather bunkers.
The DDC also assured adequate compensation to people whose crops had been damaged during the cross fire and advised them to utilize a part of the compensation for insuring their crop under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in order to overcome any loss in future.
