JAMMU, Oct 19: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh to discuss and review the arrangements being made by administration for upcoming Diwali festival.
DDC directed the concerned authorities to keep a strict vigil on sale and storage of fire crackers besides ensuring that the shopkeepers adhere to the guidelines laid down in this regard.
He also directed the concerned officers of different departments to put in all possible efforts for smooth celebration of Diwali festival by ensuring availability of essential commodities, power and drinking water supply, medicare, security, sanitation and other basic needs during the festival.
Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers of Fire and Emergency Department to ensure availability of fire tenders at the venue of sale of fire crackers.
Traffic authorities were asked to prepare a comprehensive traffic plans for smooth flow of traffic and launch special drives near crackers sale stalls.
Municipal authorities were directed to ensure cleanliness in and around the city during the festive season. DC also directed Health Department to keep ambulances ready besides sufficient stock of life saving drugs at different health institutions.
Similarly, officers of CAPD were directed to keep a check on quality and rates of eatables besides conducting regular market inspections to avoid overcharging and profiteering.
DC Jammu also constituted a committee under the chairmanship of ADC Jammu to identify the sites for sale of fire crackers in Jammu. He further directed the concerned to ensure that  ban on the sale of poor quality Chinese crackers is strictly enforced.
Among others the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu Piyush Singla, Assistant Controller Food Safety, Ajeet Singh, Dy. Director Fire Emergency, A K Wangoo, Dy Director CAPD, Atam Dev Singh and Dy Controller Legal Metrology, Manoj Prabhakar.
