DC harasses Excelsior photojournalist

Srinagar, Jan 29: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Nasir Naqash, today harassed the photojournalist of Daily Excelsior, Abid Nabi, for his reporting on Republic Day parade.
The Daily Excelsior reported on January 26 about Deputy Commissioner Baramulla not following the proper protocol during the Republic day function held at Baramulla.
The DC directed the SHO Baramulla to file an FIR against Abid for posting a news content on Daily Excelsior website “which was liable to create law and order problem and hatred among the communities.”
The Assistant Commissioner Revenue has issued notice to Abid for “trying to create law and order problem by posting news content on Excelsior website” and asked him to be present in his court tomorrow.
The employees of DC office today went to Abid’s residence at Baramulla town and harassed his family. “We were alone here and people from DC office Baramulla came with a notice and harassed us”, said his mother.
She said that they were asked by the employees to sign on the notice. “We refused and soon after that, Police was sent to harass us”, she said.
The Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) strongly condemned the action of authorities. “Our member has done nothing wrong, he has performed his professional duty by highlighting the issue of Republic Day parade at DPL Baramulla”, the statement issued said.
BWJA said that instead of repenting over his mistake, the DC is pressurizing the journalist by using by different tactics which will not be tolerated in any circumstances.
