DB’s directive on issuance of wine shop licenses

JAMMU, Sept 29: Division Bench of the State High Court comprising First Puisne Judge Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice B S Walia today directed that the competent authority should look into various guidelines and rules governing the grant of liquor shop licenses and it should be ensured that no disturbance is caused to the public, religious place or school.
The direction was passed in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging grant of license for running a bar in village Karol in Ramban district on the ground that the proposed site is close to place of worship and to a school.
After hearing both the sides, DB directed that the competent authority should look into various guidelines and the rules governing the grant of license and preferably it should be ensured that no disturbance is caused to the public, religious place or school.
Keeping in view the representation made before the court, DB directed Excise Commissioner to relook into the issue within two weeks.
