DB disposes of PIL on undertaking of Sr AAG

JAMMU, Oct 14: Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta has disposed of the PIL seeking constitution of District Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in all the 22 districts of the State on the assurance and undertaking given by Senior AAG Seema Shekhar on behalf of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina, Suraj Singh and Supriya Chouhan appearing for the PIL filed by SAVE (Save Animal Value Environment) an NGO working for welfare of animals through its chairperson Devinder Kaur Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan, and Senior AAG Seema Shekhar appearing for GAD and Divisional Commissioner Jammu/Kashmir and Govt. Advocate Sanjeev Padha appearing for Animal/Sheep Husbandry Department, the Division Bench observed that the Divisional Commissioner Jammu has submitted in his objections that District Societies have been constituted in all 10 districts of Jammu province.
Senior AAG Seema Shekhar undertook on behalf of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to constitute the similar societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Kashmir Province as well as for Ladakh Region. The Senior AAG further stated at bar that the Societies will also be registered under the J&K Registration of Societies Act 1990.
In view of the undertaking and assurance given by Senior AAG Seema Shekhar, the DB disposed of the PIL.
