PIL seeking center for organ transplant

JAMMU, Sept 15: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Smile Social Youth Club through its President Matloob Saleem Qureshi raising an important issue of organ transplant, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta today directed Principal Secretary to Government Health and Medical Education Department to file an affidavit regarding the steps taken for setting up of centre for organ transplant.
“Pursuant to order dated 26.02.2018, the State was required to put in place an action plan so that provisions of the J&K Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1997 and the rules framed there under are acted upon at the earliest. But nothing is forthcoming from the official quarter”, the DB observed.
Accordingly, DB directed Principal Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department to file an affidavit indicating the steps taken this regard. DB further directed that the officer to convene a meeting of all stakeholders including the Director, Health Services, Jammu, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, and the Director SKIMS, Srinagar in this regard.
