DB directives in PIL on encroachments of water bodies

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 27: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Rattan Singh and others seeking demolition or removal of the encroachments on the water bodies /wetland reserves and other reserves within the State, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today directed the State to take effective steps to remove encroachments.
After hearing Senior Advocate M K Sharma with Advocate Karan Sharma, the DB observed, “the grievance of the petitioners after seeing the status report is that inspite of identifying the extent of encroachments and booking of some cases against the encroachers, no further progress has been  made to remove the encroachments”.
“In such circumstances, we are of the view that interim direction is required to be issued”, the DB said and directed State to take effective steps to remove encroachments by following the procedure and for filing the progress report.
