DB directives in PIL highlighting poor working of SPCB

JAMMU, Sept 20: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Rajinder Singh Jamwal highlighting poor working of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Dhriaj Singh Thakur and Justice Sanjeev Kumar today issued certain directions.
After hearing both the sides, the DB observed, “pursuant to order dated 12.09.2017, Advocate C M Koul, who is a member of the committee constituted by this court vide order dated 09.08.2017 participated in the deliberations of the committee”.
“He prays for some more time to submit a report of the deliberations that took place in the committee and the remedial measures suggested in regard to the issues highlighted in the PIL”, the DB said while directing that the needful shall be done within three weeks.
“The Dy AG Ehsan Mirza appearing on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu has submitted that as per the directions of this court committee constituted by the Deputy Commissioner for purposes of identification of alternate dumping site has identified some locations, which also requires to be approved by the Pollution Control Board”, the DB further observed and directed counsel for the Pollution Control Board to furnish the name of a person well -versed in the functioning of the Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) within three weeks’ positively.
