DB directives to Health Secy on eye-bank, swine-flu lab

JAMMU, Sept 8: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking establishment of eye-bank and swine flu lab, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice BS Walia today directed Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Department to convene high level meeting within one week to explore the possibility whether the firm which had set up eye bank in GMC, Srinagar can set up the eye bank in GMC, Jammu.
After hearing Advocate Navneet Dubey for the PIL whereas Senior AAG HA Siddiqui for the State, the DB observed, “Senior Additional Advocate General submits that in pursuance of the NIT issued for setting up of the eye bank, no bids have been received so far except one representation in which one bidder has sought some clarification with regard to specification of the instruments to be set up in the eye bank”.
“We are given to understand that the State Government has spent huge amount in the process of tendering without any result”, the DB further observed and directed Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Department to convene high level meeting within one week from today to explore the possibility whether the firm which had set up eye bank in GMC, Srinagar can set up the eye bank in GMC, Jammu.
About swine-flu lab, the DB observed, “Advocate Naveent Dubey has submitted that so far one patient has expired due to swine flu in Medical College Jammu and two patients are critical”. Accordingly, DB directed Sr. AAG to file the status report with regard to meeting which shall be held by the Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department on the next date of hearing.
