JAMMU, July 23: To lodge protest against alleged atrocities on Scheduled Caste community throughout the country, particularly in Gujarat State where four Dalit youth were brutally beaten for skinning a dead cow, a strong demonstration was held by All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch at Bagh-e-Bahu Chowk, here today.
The protesting people raised slogans against the Government for its alleged failure to protect dignity of the Dalits and demanded a permanent solution to the problem. They also condemned the derogatory statement of former BJP leader from UP, Daya Shanker against BSP Supremo Mayawati and extension of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act to J&K State.
“The height of brutality against Dalit youth in Gujarat can be gauged from the fact that these four victims were tied with SUV car, beaten up severely and then dragged for kilometers to police station. They were beaten up in broad daylight continuously for three hours,” the speakers said.
They also appealed to Government of India to immediately arrest Daya Shanker for his derogatory remark against Mayawati. “If such type of atrocities is not checked, nation wide agitation will be started and it will be difficult for Government of India to control it, they warned.
