Srinagar, Feb 20: Dal dwellers of Mir Behri today staged a protest here against Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) and accused it of snatching their livelihood.
The Dal dwellers under the banner of Farmers’ Welfare Organisation assembled at press enclave and said that the LAWDA has served many notices to the land owners of Doel Damp in order to acquire their agriculture land for houseboats.
However, the Dal dwellers said, the LAWDA is asking for land without providing them any alternative. “We respect the decision of High Court and want to cooperative fully but how can we be forced to give up our main source of living without taking into consideration our livelihood,” they said.
The Dal dwellers urged LAWDA to think about their ‘survival’ and sought alternate land for agricultural purpose. “All we want is land against the acquired land,” they added and threatened further protests if their demand is not met.
