Cyber security

Everything has good as well as bad side. Information technology has gone through unprecedented revolution. It has brought mind-boggling revolution in the lives of people in our times. Distance and space have to be re-interpreted in new idiom. Now in the digitalized world, the very concept of daily chore has changed and we have to adapt to a new way of life. As we are going through the great event of demonetization in this country, the Prime Minister is repeatedly telling people of India to shift to electronic banking or cyber banking as we may call it in technical phraseology.
However, the dangers of cyber terror have recently surfaced as one more threatening challenge to our national security. Cyber terror means stealing the data and information that is stored in the net. Instances have happened in recent past where cyber terror has spelt havoc. Take the case of WikiLinks. It was a cyber raid in which the miscreants stole thousands of pieces of information of strategic importance from the net and made them public thus creating very embarrassing situation for the affected countries. The more serious danger is of stealing military and nuclear secrets by the terrorists and then making nuclear stations the targets of their perfidy.
We have reports that the Union Finance Ministry has been reducing the allocations for the Cyber Security head in annual budgets and that is alarming. For three years the annual allocations have been reduced regularly and this makes it difficult for the organization to have adequate manpower to run the organization. We know that our two inimical neighbours are both engaged in cyber piracy to steal secrets from our defence and foreign establishment and thus weaken us. We think that this is real danger and the Government should reconsider its policy of decreasing the budget for the cyber security head. We cannot allow ourselves to lower the guard because our enemies are too clever to take advantage of our weakness if they find it where it lies.
