CWA concerned over non-display of rates

JAMMU, Oct 16: Consumers Welfare Asociation (CWA) held an urgent meeting of its members to discuss various complaints received from consumers with regard to non display of rates of essential commodities, vegetables, fruits etc by retailers in Jammu region .It was also found that the authorities responsible for checking rates and quality of these commodities are not showing any seriousness in doing the job assigned to them, with the result that the retailers are having a field day.
CWA appealed to the authorities to exercise necessary checks in the markets and ensure that the rates are displayed. Those who spoke on the occasion included SK Gupta, AK Arora, DP Kajooria, Ram Anand and R Kakar.
Chander Gulati spoke at length about the mushrooming of unregistered nursing homes and pathological labs in Jammu. He pointed out that there is no check on rates and authenticity of tests conducted by these pathological labs. HN Patwari spoke about the complaints received regarding sale of spurious drugs in the market, causing tremendous harm to the health of patients.
CWA also appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure that MRP is made more authentic particularly in the light of implementation of GST across the board. CWA finally appealed to the Govt authorities to meticulously exercise proper checks with regard to quality, quantity and rates of essential commodities, sweets, fruits and other eatables, on the eve of Deepawali festival.
