UDHAMPUR, Nov 28:  Fed up with the callous attitude of the Government, the villagers of Dhanwalt and adjoining area finally contributed from their own and got the work started on Ramnagar to Dhanwalt road, which has been lying closed for the last six months  following flash floods and consequent land sliding.
The locals collected around Rs  3 lakh through voluntary donation of  Rs 500 from each family in the area  and then hired a JCB machine  for removing the massive boulders, which  have blocked the road.
Around  20 thousand villagers of Konain,  Bhiala, and Dhanwalt have been suffering because of the landslide and  consequent blockage of the road, which is only surface link for them to Ramnagar mainland.
The locals alleged that there was no action by the administration to clear the blockage and improve the road condition. Villagers of  Dhanwalt and adjoining area also held protest demonstrations a number of times but there was no action.  Finally the locals decided to collect donations from each family in the area and get the work done.
The villagers’ initiative has sent a strong message to the Government machinery and local MLA, who alleged failed to address the public grievance.
