JAMMU, Mar 19: Organized by Directorate of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, a three-day State level workshop on “Curriculum Adaptation” for Resource teachers working under Inclusive Education, component of SSA, concluded today at Jammu.
37 Resource teachers from all the districts of the State participated in the workshop. Resource teachers were trained by nationally acclaimed experts namely Dr Vanita Shah Choudhary (Sanskriti School, New Delhi), Poonam Pandey (National Association for Blind, New Delhi) and Dr Mohammad Shaheen (East London National Health Service foundation Trust, UK) on various aspects of Curriculum Adaptation, strategies to be applied while adapting the curriculum for Children With Special Need (CWSN) keeping in view their special needs.
Strategies for teaching and visually impaired, hearing impaired, mental retardation, all physical disabilities were dealt with. Feedback from the Resource teachers was taken about the effectiveness of workshop and strategies developed to upscale the implementation at the field level.
The workshop ended with the concluding remarks of State Project Director, Saugat Biswas followed by certificate distribution by the State Coordinator, Inclusive Education, TR Mangotra.
Besides this, training modules on Braille, Sign Language and Inclusive Education were developed at State level by the Resource teachers working under IE component of SSA. 2111 teachers were trained in Braille and sign language, 618 Principals and Headmasters were given orientation on Inclusive Education (under IEDSS), and Braille books were printed and distributed for the first time in J&K.
The purpose of the training is to create an inclusive environment in the schools and in class room transactions so as to achieve the goal of Inclusive Education where each child will be equal participant in teaching learning process irrespective of their abilities and disabilities.
