JAMMU, Feb 12: The School of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, is hosting the four-day Vice Chancellors’ Meet under the title “Academic Leadership Training in Higher Education”, from today.
The event is being organized under the aegis of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers & Teaching (PMMMNMTT) in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU). This event shall witness deliberations on various issues pertaining to higher education. Prof Furqan Qamar, Secretary General AIU, delivered the Keynote address and impressed upon the audience about the crying need of ensuring quality in higher education. He underlined the issues of excellence in higher education and the current state of affairs of such institutes of higher learning.
Prof Furqan Qamar dealt upon “triple challenges of higher education, which include expanding higher education system to provide higher education to all, ensuring inclusiveness in higher education and gender parity besides promoting quality and excellence in higher education. He stressed on overcoming these challenges and making higher education a vibrant and rewarding experience.
Prof B S Sahay, Director IIM Jammu, enlightened the luminaries in the workshop on “decision-making as a process”. He was vociferous about institutes being breeding ground of knowledge. However, he was clear about the “quality of students” and “quality of faculty” as determining factors for ensuring quality of education as a whole. He also stressed on MOUs and urged the young faculty members to register themselves with “Google Scholar” and “Research Gate”.
K K Sharma, Advisor to the Governor J&K, dwelt upon the need of training for leaders who are already at the zenith of their career. He stressed on “identifying deficiencies”, “developing skills for negotiations”, “making strategy and year-wise strategic plans”, and “monitoring” as key factors for addressing leadership crisis.
Prof Ashok Aima, Vice-chancellor, CUJ, delivered his presidential-note and emphasized on developing leadership qualities. He called the present time as “an era of collaboration”. He also spoke about the MOUs that CUJ has signed so far.
The inaugural session came to an end with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr J N Baliya, Assistant Professor, CUJ. Earlier, Dr Dharmendra Singh, Head Department of Educational Studies, presented a formal welcome address.
Speakers for the next three days are renowned Vice-Chancellors, Administrators and Directors of various universities and institutions from across the country.
