Meeting aimed at promoting sports excellence

JAMMU, Jan 16: To promote sports excellence and to formulate a long term sports policy, the Central University Jammu conducted a first Advisory Council meeting at its main campus, Rahya Suchani, near here today.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu (CUJ), Prof Ashok Aima who briefed about various achievements and initiatives being taken by the Varsity.
The Council constituting of top sports achievers and experts of International standing from the state included Ranjeet Kalra, Co-chairman of the Council and Advisor for Sports Govt of Lakshdweep; Haji Abdul Qayoom, Chief Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council; Ashok Kumar, Director Sports Shrine Board, Katra; Rajesh Dhar, Senior Journalist and Member JKCA; Surinder Singh Bunty, Resident Secretary J&K Football Association, Surinder Singh Bagal, former ace International Crickleter; SP Singh, Senior Officer J&K State Sports Council; Iqbal Singh, former National Player; Dr Vandana Sharma, Director Physical Education CUJ; Dr Ajay Singh; Dr Aman and DrVikas Shrivastav.
Earlier, the meet began with a formal welcome address by Prof Deepak Pathania, Chairman Sports Council CUJ, who also briefed the mandate of the Council and put forward the agenda of the meeting.
The meeting discussed the agenda regarding formulation of the annual calendar for various sports events and activities; possibility of establishment of a temporary Indoor Stadium within the Campus; hiring of coaches and holding of sports-related training workshops, sports camps for students and the faculty.
The Council members also visited the actual site of Sports Complex, where Executive Engineer briefed them about the status.
The meeting was coordinated by Dr Bachha Babu, Member Secretary, Sports Advisory Council CUJ.
