JAMMU, Jan 27: Chief Secretary BB Vyas and Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Shesh Pal Vaid accompanied by top civil and police officials today visited border areas in RS Pura sector and met the people to listen to their problems in the wake of heavy mortar shelling and firing by the Pakistani Rangers recently in which seven civilians lost their lives and many others were injured while several houses were damaged and cattle perished.
Accompanied by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Hemant Sharma, IGP Jammu Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Rajiv Ranjan and Director School Education Ravinder Singh, the Chief Secretary and the DGP visited ITI College in RS Pura, where large number of border migrants were putting up and listened to their problems. They assured that majority of their problems will be addressed immediately.
Later, they visited Jeora Farm and Sei forward villages and assessed damages caused by Pakistan shelling and firing. They also met some civilians, who were still putting up in the villages and inter-acted them.
The Chief Secretary told the reporters that they had come to assess the situation due to border shelling and firing.
He said the Government would try to ensure that problems voiced by the border dwellers are addressed immediately.
“Construction of toilets in the border belt will be expedited,” he said, adding this was one of the major demands raised by the people.
The Government has already assured compensation to the next of kin of firing victims and the administration assured that their demand for job to dependents will also be considered.
Later, the Chief Secretary chaired meeting of the administration at RS Pura to take feedback on the situation arising out of border tension.
