Court rejects bail of husband, father-in-law in dowry death case

JAMMU, Nov 4: City Judge Jammu Surinder Singh has rejected the bail application of Sandeep Mankotia, husband of deceased Anita Mankotia, and Watan Singh, father-in-law of deceased in dowry death case.
According to the police case, on August 8, 2017 a telephonic message was received at PCR Jammu to the effect that one lady namely Anita Mankotia, wife of Sandeep Mankotia of H No 87, Sector 7, Deeli, Extension Channi Himmat, Jammu has hanged herself in the house of her-in-laws and breathed her last in GMC Hospital, Jammu.
After recording the statements and material collected, Police registered FIR for offences under Section 306 and 498-A RPC against the in-laws of the deceased.
After hearing CPO Ashish Rathore with Senior PO Anil Saini for the Police, court observed, “the charge against the accused is serious in nature and offence alleged carries a punishment up to ten years. The seriousness of offence may tempt the accused to flee from the course of justice, but it has to be seen as to what is the character of evidence against the accused which can be gathered from the case diary file”.
“Crime against women in any form is condemnable which lands the victim in a state of shock and makes her to suffer from mental agony and psychological turmoil. In the instant case the victim was carrying eight months fetus in her womb at the time of commission of offence”, the court further observed.
After hearing both the sides, court rejected the bail application.
