Court orders jail of one year for failure to repay loan

Jammu, Jan 19: A complaint was lodged by Jammu & Kashmir, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and backward Classes Development Corporation in the court of Special Mobile Magistrate Passenger Tax Jammu against one loanee Salim Massih son of Magar Massih R/o Christian Colony, Residency Road, Jammu, for having issued Loan installment repayment cheque to District Manager of the Corporation Jammu, which bounced.
Thereafter, the loanee failed to repay the amount despite having assured before the Court to repay it to the Corporation within a reasonable time.
Despite lapse of more than one year, the accused did not pay the outstanding amount to the Corporation.
The court of Special Mobile Magistrate, Passenger Tax, Jammu today sentenced the defaulter loanee to simple imprisonment for a period of one year and fine double the outstanding amount, with a direction that out of the fine recovered the outstanding amount of loan be given to the Corporation as compensation.
The Court further directed that, on failure to pay the fine the accused shall undergo further imprisonment for one month.
The Court ordered that the accused be arrested forthwith to serve the period of imprisonment.
