JAMMU, Jan 22: Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri Shahzad Azeem today rejected the bail application of Anu Sharma and her brother Ajay Kumar, who are facing trial in murder of Amitabh Bachchan, husband of Anu Sharma.
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “as per prosecution story, the deceased was done to death in pursuance of a well planned conspiracy, engineered by none other than wife and brother-in-law of deceased and the motive attributed so far is that Anu Sharma wanted to get rid of the deceased and in accomplishing this plan, Ajay Sharma stood with Anu Sharma and finally deceased was strangulated to death”.
“From the material collected during investigation and the prosecution witnesses recorded so far, there appears reasonable grounds for believing that the accused have been guilty of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life”, the court said, adding “keeping in view the nature of offence, severity of punishment and the alleged role attributed to the accused persons, they cannot be enlarged on bail at this stage”.
