Court awards 4 yrs imprisonment for 2 former passport officers

Srinagar, June 29: A local court here today awarded 4 years imprisonment and fine to two former passport officers for committing criminal conspiracy and fraud during their service tenure.
The court of Special Judge Anti Corruption (CBI) Srinagar awarded 4 years imprisonment to the then passport officer Bashir Ahmed Zargar(KAS) and M A Turi the then Assistant Passport Officer, Srinagar U/s 120-B r/w 409, 420 of RPC and Section 5(1) (c) (d) r/w 5 (2) J&K PC Act.
Both the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy by way of sale of passport application forms and misappropriated an amount of Rs.6.63,661 lakhs resulting into registering of case against both the accused by CBI on 10.05.2001 and thereafter charge sheet was filed in the court of Special Judge, Anti Corruption Cases, Srinagar on 25.10.2002.
The court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption today found both the accused persons guilty and convicted them under the relevant Sections and awarded sentence of 4 years to each accused and fine of three lakhs to each accused.
According to officials records both the accused officials entered into a criminal conspiracy in the year 1999 to 2001 and the object of which was to cause wrongful gain to themselves by way of sale of passport application forms and accordingly case No RC 6 (A) 2001 Jammu was registered in the branch on 10.05 2001, against Bashir Ahmad Zargar (KAS) the then Passport officer Srinagar and M A Turi the then Assistant Passport Officer Srinagar for the commission of punishable offences.
