Corporation sanctions edu loan for SC engineering student

JAMMU, Jan 3: To help the students of the poor families belonging to reserved categories to pursue technical and professional courses as per their desire, Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and  Backward Classes Development Corporation Limited, provides financial assistance in the form of loan up to ten lakh for studying within India and twenty lakh for abroad studies. The funds for the purpose are provided by Apex Corporations for different categories.
This was stated by Vice-Chairperson of the Corporation, Balbir Ram Rattan, who, along with Divisional Manager, Gulam Qadir Khatana and Jammu District Manager Joginder Paul Atri, handed over ‘sanction letter’ of education loan amounting to Rs 4.5 lakh, to co-borrower, Ramesh Chander, father of Rohit-Bhagat, a Scheduled Caste student, who had applied for loan to undergo B.Tech course in Tawi Engineering College, Shahpurkandi, Tehsil Dharkalan, Pathankot.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that the case related to grant of education loan was recommended to National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), New Delhi, which accorded sanction to the same, thus extending help to a poor family student who was not in a position to go for higher studies after 10+2 as his parents could not bear the expenses. He said that similar facilities are also available for poor students of  ST, BC, Handicapped, Minorities, Safai Karamchari categories, who can avail education loan from National Scheduled Tribes Finance & Development Corporation (NSTFDC), National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC), National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation (NHFDC), National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMFDC) and National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC), the Apex Corporations of Government of India. These Corporations provide 90 per cent of the total amount, while State Government provides five per cent and the beneficiary too contribute five per cent of the total education loan sanctioned.
