Cop, sister hurt; SOG man abducted, let off

SRINAGAR, June 13: A police constable and his minor sister were injured in a militant attack in South Kashmir’s Shopian district this evening while a Special Operations Group (SOG) man was abducted by militants from Tral area of Pulwama district but was later let off.
A group of 3 militants barged into the house of Police constable Rayees Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Hassan at Katho Hallan village in Kellar area of Shopian district this evening. The militants fired indiscriminately injuring the constable and his minor sister Urfi Jan, 12.
The injured were removed to nearby district hospital for treatment where from they were referred to 92-Base Hospital at BB Cantt Srinagar for specialized treatment. The sister has suffered injuries in leg and her condition is stated to be stable but the constable is said to be critical. Lone was recently promoted from SPO to constable and is presently posted at DPL Shopian.
Militants managed to escape from the spot after carrying out the attack. Security forces immediately rushed to the village. Several nearby villages have been cordoned off and manhunt launched against the militants responsible for the attack.
Militants tonight abducted a cop, Ishfaq Ahmad, from his home at Woudr Nowpora in Lassipora area of Pulwama district. Sources said that a group of militants barged into his home tonight and took him along. The cop is posted with SOG in Pulwama and had gone home.
Massive hunt has been launched by security forces against the  militants responsible for the abduction of the cop. However, the cop later returned home as he was let off by militants.
In the meantime, militants this evening lobbed a UBGL grenade towards police station Lassipora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
The grenade was hurled on police station Lassipora Pulwama at 7:15 pm. The grenade exploded with a bang and cops retaliated by firing towards the militants. The militants, however, managed to escape from the spot.
Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF rushed to the spot and launched searches to nab the assailants. However, no one was arrested.
And in Budgam, a boy, who had gone missing from his home to join militancy, returned home due to timely intervention by police with the support of his family.
Sources said that the boy was upset due to some personal issues in the family and fled home to join militancy. The family approached the police and due to the timely intervention, he was persuaded to shun the violence and return home. Budgam police has ensured all help to the boy so that he can lead a normal life again.
