JAMMU, Apr 13: A police constable posted as Personal Security Officer (PSO) with Socialist Democratic Party (SDP) leader Gursevak Singh opened firing on his rival with his official AK-47 rifle at Teli Basti in Bari Barahamana area of Samba district last this evening causing him serious injuries.
The accused was absconding along with the weapon.
Police said the PSO identified as Mohammad Saleem had a tiff over land dispute with Irshad Ali son of Ashiq Ali R/o Teli Basti this evening. The PSO later took his official rifle from the house and went to the residence of Irshad, where he fired two to three bursts at him causing him bullet wound on leg.
Police parties headed by SHO Bari Barahamana Inspector Arun Jamwal rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, where his condition was stated to be serious.
Police have launched a search operation for the absconding constable. He had fled away along with his official weapon.
Police have registered a case against the constable at Bari Barahamana police station for further investigations.
