Two policemen were injured as militants attacked a police party near Rajpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this afternoon.
A group of militants fired indiscriminately on a police party near Rajpora in which two policemen identified as Selection Grade Constable Abdul Salam and Muneer Ahmad were injured.
The injured cops were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment. However, Abdul Salam’s condition deteriorated and was shifted to Army’s-92 Base Hospital, where he succumbed.
Sources said that the two militants, who attacked the police party, fled in a TATA mobile after carrying out the attack leaving, two cops in a pool of blood. They said one of the militant was a local while another was foreigner.
Soon after the incident, security forces launched a massive manhunt against the militants responsible for the attack.
They said that it was a weapon snatching bid that was foiled by the cops. The killed cop fired 29 rounds of bullets on the militants before he was critically injured in the attack.
Earlier in the day, militants hurled a grenade on SOG camp at Imam Sahib in Shopian district. However, no one was injured in the attack and entire area was cordoned off to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
In the meantime, Army operation in Macchil sector in Lashdat area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district continued for second day today.
Army yesterday foiled  a major infiltration bid along the LoC in Macchil sector killing a militant and recovering one weapon. However, the operation in the area continued as three militants are believed to be still hiding in the area taking advantage of dense forests.
The troops of 21 Raj Rifles and 57 RR deployed in the area at Lashdat in Macchil sector continued their operation against them.
It may be mentioned here that large number of infiltrators are waiting on the launch pads for infiltration ahead of winter when mountain passes get blocked due to snowfall in the hills. However, Army along the LoC is alert to foil such efforts.
