Cop abducted, killed in Kulgam; 2 LeT OGWs arrested

SRINAGAR, July 21: A police man, who was abducted by militants from his native village in Kulgam district last night, was  shot dead in Qoimoh area of the district this afternoon while Police arrested two Over Ground Workers of Lashkar-e-Toiba from Sopore today.
A group of militants barged inside the house of police constable Mohammad Saleem Shah son of Abdul Gani Shah of Mutalhama village late last night and abducted him. Saleem was taken to an unknown destination and this afternoon his body was found near Ghat at Odipora, Qoimoh.
A police team immediately reached the spot and recovered the body. Saleem, who was earlier working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) was recently promoted as constable. He had come home on leave few days back from Kathua where he was undergoing training.
A police spokesman the body of the cop bore severe torture marks indicating that he was brutally tortured to death. Shah had joined the services in 2016 and after completing his basic training he was posted to DPL Pulwama. “He is survived by aged parents, two brothers and one unmarried sister. He was the lone breadearner for his family and the only hope for his aged parents”, the spokesman said.

“The initial investigation into the matter has indicated it as handiwork of proscribed terror outfit HM. We condemn such gruesome terror act and assure that the culprits will be brought to justice”, the spokesman added.
And Sopore police today arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and recovered huge cache of ammunition from their possession.
A police spokesman said that acting on a credible inputs, Sopore  Police with the assistance  of Army’s 22 RR and 177, 179 battalion of CRPF arrested two active OGWs of LeT outfit Tanveer Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Qayoom Mir and Tanveer Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Hassan Najar both residents of Brath Kalan Sopore today on 21-07-2018 from Dangerpora area.
“One UBGL grenade, 1 magazine with 15 rounds of AK-47 and 2 matrix sheets were recovered from their possession. In this regard, a case FIR No. 203/2018 under Section 7/25 Arms Act, 13 ULA Act has been registered at police station Sopore and investigation taken up”, the spokesman added.
And Army intensified searches in Tanghdar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) following an encounter with a group of infiltrators today.
Troops of 6-Gharwal this morning launched the cordon-and-search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in Balthedyan area. Militants believed to be infiltrators opened fire on troops triggering an encounter. More trips were rushed to the area  and massive searches have been launched.
Militants this afternoon fired at CRPF party in Mattan area of Anantnag district. The CRPF retaliated, however, there were no fatalities on either side. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched searches.
