Contractual lecturers demand regularization, hike in wages

Excelsior Correspondent

DODA, Oct 24: Contractual lecturers working in different schools of  Doda district have urged the State Education authorities  to regularise their services and also give hike in their wages.
In a meeting of the  lecturers held here today under the chairmanship of  Asif Iqbal Bhat, the speakers expressed deep resentment against the Government for ignoring the aspirations of 10+2 contractual lecturers working in different  institutions across the State.
Mr Bhat said that many educated youth are working as contractual lecturers in 10+2 institutions across Jammu and Kashmir State since 1998 and during the period of their services some of  them have crossed the upper age limit required for the Govt services and some are on the verge of it.  Asif said that  upto 2003, they were appointed on academic arrangement basis vide different Govt orders.
In July 2003, on the eve of  upgradation of schools, Govt framed a policy for the regularization of their services after rendering three years of service vide Govt order No. 1301 Edu of  2003 dated 31-07-2003, but the Govt  modified the order No. 1301 vide Govt. order No 1584 Edu of 2003 dated 21-10-2003 in which it is mentioned that academic arrangement is up to April 2004 and in future all such arrangements will be made on contractual basis and that order was endorsed to the GAD, Director School Education Jammu/Srinagar, all the CEOs and Principals of the schools.
He said after repeated requests, neither their case has been referred to the empowered committee nor salaries have been drawn as per Contractual rules vide Govt. order No 1661 GAD of 2010. It is very unfortunate that these lecturers are getting salary less than Class IV employees, he added.
Mr Bhat revealed that despite serving the Education Department for more than 12 years, Government has ignored their demands.
