JAMMU, July 27: Even as the ongoing hunger strike by Contractual Lecturers (10+2) entered into 164th day today, there has been no response from the State Government and its Education Department towards their demand of regularization.
This morning, fresh batch of Contractual Lecturers began their 24-hour fast amidst raising of slogans by the other members of Contractual Lecturers Association. Thereafter a protest demonstration was also held there.
These Contractual Lecturers are demanding their regularization as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a legislation passed for the regularization of all the Ad-hoc/ Contractual/Consolidated employees.
While addressing the demonstration, Zabir Hussain Shah, vice president of the Association, rued the callous attitude of State Government towards their genuine demand. Jeevan Kumar, press secretary of the Association, in his address warned the Government to stop exploiting highly educated Contractual Lecturers, who are left with no option other than to resort agitational path.
Those who sat on hunger strike this morning, included Javid Iqbal, Abdul Jabbar Bhat, Reva Rani and Kiran Sharma.
Meanwhile, the Association leaders claimed that a pen down strike was observed by 10+2 Contractual Lecturers at different Higher Secondary Schools in Kashmir division, for expressing solidarity with their counterparts in Jammu, who are on hunger strike for the last 164 days.
