JAMMU, Feb 24: The contractors in Kathua staged a demonstration and protested against the PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister, Ch. Shyam Lal who did not allow the contractors delegation to meet him during his meeting with officers at Circle Office Kathua today.
The contractors who had assembled in the town wanted to meet Minister and apprise him of the problems created by the Government with issuance of order that the bills of various departments will not be cleared by treasuries hence forth and the contractors can get payments from their respective divisions.
However the contractors were of the view that this will delay the release of payments in their favour as already bills have been framed by the respective departments for payment and they will be put to problem by the decision at this stage and payments will be delayed and in the process funds will lapse.
As the Minister did not gave audience to them the contractors held a demonstration raising slogans against him and the Government. They also warned to launch agitation against the Government move and termed the decision as highhandedness.
