JAMMU, Mar 3: Demanding payments of work done and deferment of Pay and Accounts Office (PAO) system, the contractors continued their protest and locked the office of Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Department at Rail Head Complex, here today.
Amid slogans against the Finance Department and Government, large number of contractors assembled at Rail Head Complex under the banner of Contractors Association PWD (R&B) Department and held protest. They also locked the office of Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Department.
The protesters said that the Finance Department has imposed the Pay and Accounts Office (PAO) system untimely to deny the genuine payments of work done in all the departments of Jammu Province.
“PWD (R&B) Department is main defaulter in making payments to the contractors to the tune of crores of rupees for roads, bridges, buildings, bitumen macadamization, lanes and drains and other civil works”, said Sham Singh Jamwal, President Contractors Association Jammu Province.
If our payments are not released by deferring the PAO system, no contractor will work in present scenario and will also not participate in any tenders of Jammu Province, Jamwal warned.
