Constitutional status to NCBC

Some groups of people in the country have been classified as backward on the basis of inadequate economy, education and social standing. There are historical reasons also why they have remained backward. Most of them belong to far off rural areas of the country where some basic facilities and amenities of life are either totally denied or provided inadequately. We have a National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) that usually deals with the issues pertaining to these groups. However, there has been a move to provide the Commission something like constitutional status. A bill has already been mooted which the Lok Sabha passed in April this year but was blocked by the Rajya Sabha. It is now learnt that after thoroughly discussing the provisions of the bill with an all party panel, the Rajya Sabha has given the indication that it would allow the bill to go through when it is presented in the coming Monsoon session. We are happy that after some hiccups consensus of opinion among the law makers is in sight and the bill will go through. With the passing of the bill, we hope that many positive actions could follow that would contribute to the improvement of economic, social and other aspects of life of these people.
