GANDHINAGAR, Dec 10: Hitting out at the Congress Party for raking up the 2002 riots case ahead of Gujarat elections, BJP President Amit Shah on Sunday said that the allegations on Prime Minister Narendra Modi are being raised only for consolidation of votes.
In a press conference, Mr Shah said, “The entire nation knows that allegations levelled on Modi ji by Congress backed NGO were all false and he is spotless. Yet for vote bank consolidation, 2002 is being raised in 2017.”
The BJP Chief comment came after Mumbai Congress Vice President Charan Singh Sapra had questioned if Modi will go to Jama Masjid and apologized for riots.
In a news channel show he had said, “Sonia Gandhi visited Golden Temple and apologized in front of the media. Manmohan Singh also apologized in Parliament. In the last 33 years, the BJP has been adding insult to our injury. Can Narendra Modi visit the Jama Masjid and apologize for 1992 riots.”
He also alleged the Congress party for bringing castes issue in this election and said, “The would-be President of Congress started hopping from temple to temple. Congress has been the creator of polarisation in India.”
The first phase of election on 89 seats were held on Saturday and for remaining 93 seats the election will be held on December 14.
The counting for the elections will be held on December 18.
