VIJAYPUR, Sept 1: Assailing Modi Government for its failure to deal with Pakistan, Congress workers today held a strong protest demonstration at Vijaypur chowk and burnt effigy of Pakistan for violating cease fire and targeting civilian areas.
A large number of Congress workers under the leadership of PCC general secretary and former minister Manjit Singh organized a demonstration and burnt an effigy of Pakistan for violating cease fire leading to the killing of innocent people along the border. The protesters, amid shouting slogans against the Pakistan, torched the effigy while expressing anger against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his failure to deal with the situation leading to tension on the border.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh said that the number of civilian killing is much more than in Pak firing in IB villages in comparison to 1965 and 1971.
“Modi Government has shown its inability to deal with the situation. The Union Government should have adopted strong attitude towards the Pakistan’s aggression against India. The PM has not uttered any single word since the day Pak has shown aggression on the borders,” he added.
Regarding sufferings due to Pak shelling, he said, those who got killed in Pak firing are given Rs 1 lakh as compensation by the Government which needs to be re-looked and increased to Rs 10 lakhs.
He further demanded increase in the compensation for critically wounded persons who get permanently disabled. Congress leader also demanded reservation for the residents of IB like people of Actual Line of Control.
“People on IB and ALC are facing similar problems due to Pak shelling during hostility between India and Pakistan but the Government has given reservation to only ALC people ignoring the residents of International Border,” he added.
He said that the Government should also give the border residents five marla plots in the safer places.
