JAMMU, Nov 14: In connection with 129th Birth Anniversary of Ist Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Congress organized several functions across the State to celebrate the day.
The main function was held at Congress headquarters, Jammu which was presided over by former Minister and PCC vice president, Mula Ram and attended by former Minister Raman Bhalla, senior leaders Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Manmohan Singh, Faqir Nath, Vikram Malhotra, Hari Singh, Shivdev Singh, Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat, KL Gupta, YB Sharma, S. Gurdarshan Singh, Raqeeq Khan-NSUI besides Corporators, office bearers of DCC, Block presidents and leaders of frontal organizations.
Remembering the great contribution of Pt Nehru, floral tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister by the speakers and others on the occasion. They recalled his role in the freedom struggle and in the post-independence period to lay the foundations of the Modern India. He is known as architect of Modern India because of his visionary role for the future of the nation, which has emerged as a successful democracy in the world and playing a lead role in the world today, they maintained.
Mula Ram in his address described Pt Nehru as a great statesman and visionary leader who laid sound foundation of Modern India. He is known as architect of Modern India because of his multi- dimensional contributions in shaping the future of Independent India, he added.
Raman Bhalla while paying tribute to Pt Nehru, recalled his great contributions in the freedom struggle and as first Prime Minister. He criticized the communal forces who are trying to distort history to misguide the younger generations about the role of Pt Nehru and other great leaders of freedom struggle under leadership of congress party and Mahatma Gandhi.
Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh and several other leaders also spoke on the occasion.
In Srinagar also, the Congress leaders paid floral tributes to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary and recalled his selfless services to the Nation. A meeting of senior Party functionaries and prominent workers was held under the chairmanship of PCC spokesperson Farooq Andrabi today, in which senior leaders paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister.
Addressing the meeting PCC spokesperson described Pt Nehru as a tallest leader of the country, under whose leadership the Nation touched new heights in every respect. The departed leader was a freedom fighter and a central figure in Indian politics before and after independence, who always remained concerned about the development of the people from grass roots level, he said.
On this occasion, Andrabi lashed out at BJP- RSS over targeting Gandhi family aiming to mislead people to serve their vested interests, for the fact, BJP has not been able to fulfil the promises it has made with the people during the last Lok Sabha election, he added and said that the Saffron Party can go to any extent to defame Congress leadership to hide its communal face.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included- Abdul Gani Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Bazaz, Dr Sayeed, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, Farhat Qureshi, Nissar Ahmad Khan, Abdul Ahad Bhat, Abdul Ahad Tara and Gulam Nabir Mir.
DCC Udhampur Unit, organised a function under the leadership of ex-MLA Krishan Chander Bhagat today to pay floral tributes to country’s first Prime Minister. The day was celebrated as Children’s day. He recalled the contributions of Late Nehru. Senior leaders Vijay Manhas, Suram Chand, Suresh Khajuria, Dwarka Nath Prasher, Ganesh Magotra, Rajinder Singh, Rakesh Sharma and others were also present.
In Kathua also, a similar function was held under the leadership of ex-MLC Subhash Gupta. The party leaders and activists paid floral tributes to Late Nehru. The speakers recalled the contributions of Late Nehru in freedom struggle and also post -independence era. A function was also held in Ward No. 64 of Jammu where Congress leader Hoshiyar Singh Chib and others paid tributes to Nehru.
Reports about organising similar functions were also received from various other districts of the State.
