JAMMU,  Aug 5:  A strong protest  demonstration was held by Congress Party across the State  today to lodge protest over the attack on AICC  vice president Rahul Gandhi at Gujarat on Friday.
A large number of Congress workers led by senior leaders of PCC, DCC, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal and other frontal wings of  the party held a strong  protest demonstration at Shahidi Chowk,  Jammu near Congress office here today and raised slogans against BJP and Modi Govt at the Centre and State Govt  of  Gujarat for their failure to prevent brutal attack on  Rahul Gandhi. The protesters raised slogans against the failure of the Centre and State Govt in Gujarat for their failure to ensure fool proof security to AICC leader, who is an SPG protectee and sitting MP besides leader of main opposition Congress in the country.

Addressing the gathering,  several senior leaders including  senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma,  vice president Raman Bhalla and Mula Ram, Ch Mohd Akram-MLA, Jugal Kishore-MLC, Vikram Malhotra, Indu Pawar (Mahila President), Pranav Shagotra (PYC President) lashed out at the BJP and the Centre and State Govts for their failure to ensure safety and security of national vice president of AICC who had been on a  scheduled visit to Gujarat to meet the flood  affected people. They termed it as a murder of the democratic values where the voice of opposition is crushed. They said that Congressmen throughout country would fight against the undemocratic modes and hooliganism being adopted by the BJP.
They termed the incident as a highly shameful and against democracy in the country. They condemned the culture of violence being encouraged against opponents which is dangerous for democracy and the Congress workers would fight against such policies and philosophy with backing of BJP in the Country. The Congress has a history of sacrifices and would oppose tooth and nail the cult of violence in any form in the largest democracy of world.
A large number of senior leaders attended the protest. Prominent among them included  Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, Maheshwar Singh,  Namrata Sharma, Ch Shah Nawaz, BS Sambyal,  Anil Chopra, Shiv Dev Singh, KC Bhagat, Prof Gharu Ram (Ex-MLAs),  Maheshwar Singh,  Ashok Gupta, Pawan Raina,  Manjit Singh Jatt, Neeraj Gupta, Ashwai Puri, Hari Singh Chib, Thomas Khokher, Nadeep Sharief Niaz, Sanjeev Sharma, Suresh Bargotra, Jai Singh, Rajinder Sigh, Mohan Choudhary, Sumit Magotra,  Dr  Ramakant  Khajuria, Ram Prakash Magotra, Amrit Bali  and others.
At Hiaranagar, Cong MLC  Th Balbir Singh and Ex-MLA Girdhari Lal Chalotra were leading the protest.  They also addressed the large gathering of protesters.
Th Balwan Singh ( Ex-MLA) was leading protest at Marh town.  Several former Sarpanches and  Panches besides BCC members attended the programme.
Similar protest demonstrations were held at several places across the State in different districts and blocks. The local leaders held strong protest and condemned the  Govt of the State and Centre and accused BJP of adopting undemocratic norms.
