JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, May 21: Pradesh Congress paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his  death anniversary in various functions held across the State today.
The main function was held at PCC headquarters  Jammu  in which various senior party leaders including PCC president GA Mir, vice president Raman Bhalla, senior leaders Jahangir Mir,  Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Th Shivdev Singh, DCC president Anil Chopra and others paid rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi and recalled his contributions for the party and the country.
Paying tributes to the great leader, Mir lauded the role of Rajiv Gandhi for his visionary decisions and said that he was the man who brought revolution in the field of information technology in the country.  He said for strengthening Panchayati Raj  system in the country, the credit goes to Rajiv Gandhi.
Describing Rajiv Gandhi a man with great conviction, commitment and a vision, JKPCC in a function held at party office  Srinagar paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister on his 26th death anniversary.
The Party also described the assassination of former PM as an irreparable loss to the entire Nation. Congress Legislators, office bearers and senior party leaders participated and paid floral tributes to departed leader.

The function was presided over by MLC vice president Gulam Nabi Monga and it was addressed by MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Usman Majeed, Mohd Anwar Bhat, spokesperson Farooq Andrabi and other leaders.
The leaders while recalling the services rendered by Rajiv Gandhi  to the Nation, paid rich and floral tributes to the former PM and observed two minutes’ silence as a mark of respect of the deceased and described him as an architect of modern India.
They said Nation would continue to remain indebted to the Gandhi family for the selfless services and sacrifices given by it for the integrity, security and safety of the Country. The Country has lost a great and revolutionary leader in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi under whose leadership, the Nation touched new heights in respect of Education, Computer Science, Science Technology and other top sectors befitting people directly.
District Congress Committee Jammu Rural organized a function to pay tribute to former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi at Paloura. Large number of workers attended the function  Hari Singh Chib, president DCC Jammu Rural presided over the function. Mula Ram former minister was the chief guest and Uday Chib,  National secretary NSUI was the guest of honour.
While paying tributes Mula Ram described Late Rajiv Gandhi as  a visionary leader who strengthened institution of Panchayati Raj. Decentralization of powers to the rural masses through Panchayat Raj institution was the dream of the late leader. Party cadre should follow the path shown by Rajiv Gandhi and adopt his ideals in their life, he said.
DCC Kathua also paid rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi in  function held at Kathua under the leadership of  District Congress Committee president  and former MLC Subash Gupta.
While paying tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, Gupta described Rajiv Gandhi as a great statesman and a visionary leader, and remembered his contributions for the country who sacrificed his life like his mother Indira Gandhi for the sake of Nation. He said that the Congress party and Nehru-Gandhi family has a history of sacrifices for the unity and integrity of the nation.
Recalling Rajiv Gandhi as architect of 21st Century digital India as the country has emerged as leader in the world in the IT and Computer era because of his vision.
“Besides empowerment in Panchayat Raj through 73rd and 74th amendment granting 33% quota to Women and reservation to SCs, STs, and OBCs,” he added.
Municipal Council former president Naresh Sharma,   Rattan Chand Karotra,   Narinder Khajuria, S P Chandel, Mohinder Sharma, Pankaj Sharma, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Tarsem Lal and others also paid tributes on the occasion.
Reports about such functions were also received from various other districts and block headquarters of the State.
