JAMMU, Oct 26: As part of nationwide call, Congress today held a strong protest demonstration over the issue of undue interference in the matter of CBI and illegal removal of its director during night hours by the Modi Government.
A large number of senior Congress leaders and workers including DCC, Youth Congress and women workers held a strong protest demonstration at Shahidi Chowk Jammu and marched towards Raghunath Bazar carrying placards, denouncing Government action and raising slogans against Modi Government for the illegal removal of CBI director and undue interference in the independence of CBI.
Led by former Minister and vice president, JKPCC, Raman Bhalla, chief spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma, general secretary, Thakur Manmohan Singh, DCC Urban president, Vikram Malhotra, JKPYC president, Udey Bhanu Chib and several other leaders including newly elected corporators, functionaries of PCC, DCC, Blocks, Mahila Congress and Youth Congress took part in the protest.
Addressing the gathering, former Minister Raman Bhalla lashed out at the Modi Government for its direct assault on democratic institutions one after the other. It is very unfortunate that those institutions which were established with a view to have an independent and autonomous functioning to maintain balance in the democracy are being trampled by the Modi Government.
He alleged that the Modi Government has acted out of fear and panic in view of various reasons and allegations against the Government especially in Rafale deal. He said that Congress would fight for safeguarding the strengthening of these institutions of democracy in the larger interests of the common people and democracy in this Country.
Ravinder Sharma accused the Modi Government of making an unprecedented assault on the independence of the CBI, which is very dangerous for the democracy and freedom of this Country. It is a sort of undeclared emergency and all highest constitutional and democratic institutions are being systematically weakened, he alleged.
Vikram Malhotra charged Modi Government of illegal and arbitrary actions in order to weaken the institutions like CBI, which is premier investigation agency. This is unprecedented assault on the independence of CBI by Modi Government, he added.
Meanwhile, Youth Congress J&K led by its president, Udhay Chib also held a protest in this connection outside party office in Jammu. Addressing the protesting activists, Udhay said that it is an illegal move on the part of NDA Government to remove the CBI director.
