JAMMU, Dec 5: Chairperson of the Waqf Development Committee of  Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today said that Congress Party exploited the Muslims for over six decades with its hollow appeasement and  vested interests.
Addressing a gathering of  the minority Muslim community after paying obeisance at Batala Sharief Shrine (Punjab),   Dr Darakhshan said that those who have wasted more than six decades of the country in mere verbal appeasement of the Muslim community are not even ashamed of sermonizing on secularism in India.
“Muslims in India have been sentimentally exploited for more than six decades for votes only and left to extreme poverty, illiteracy and economic backwardness. The present Government does not believe in sloganeering but actually translating the mission of  `Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ into reality at ground level. The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is working honestly on the mission of educating and empowering the minorities in India through different schemes,” Dr Darakhshan maintained.
The WDC Chairperson said that thousands of criminal cases have been registered throughout the country for encroaching or misappropriating the Waqf properties and funds by politicians and Waqf executives of  the past. She assured the gathering that all those guilty of exploiting the minority community and those who have looted the community of their rights will be dealt with very seriously.
She further said that she was happy with the management of the shrine and the mosque-complex at Batala Sharief. She said that it was the need of the hour to take all steps to educate the youth from minority community to ensure at par social status of minorities in the country. She lauded the  Waqf Board of Punjab for its  efforts in the field of education and medical facilities.
Earlier,  Chairman of the Shrine Management Committee, Peer Mohammad Maqbool Naqshbandi in his welcome address  presented a detailed report of the issues of the minority community in the State.
Dr Andrabi also held a  meeting of  the State Waqf authorities about Shrines Management in the State.
