Excelsior Correspondent
REASI, June 30: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also MP Lok Sabha from Udhampur-Kathua- Doda, said here today that Congress Party deliberately neglected the backward hilly areas with a mala-fide motive aimed at keeping the people in these areas deprived of education, literacy and development, so that they could be exploited as a vote bank during the elections.
Addressing an impressive public meeting at Sujandhar in remote Bhomag area of district Reasi, Dr Jitendra Singh said, out of 70 years after independence, the Congress Party under Nehru- Gandhi dynasty has been at the helm of affairs for as many as 48 years, but they could not accomplish even a fraction of the development which was accomplished in the 48 months of the Modi Government in four years.
He accused Congress leaders of deliberately depriving the people living in backward, rural and hilly areas of connectivity to the cities and highways so that they would never become aware enough to question the family rule, nepotism and corruption indulged by the Congress rulers.
Dr Jitendra Singh asked the people of Bhomag to introspect as to why, for all these years, they were deprived of the basic amenities of road connectivity and electricity even though they had Members of Parliament from this region as Central Ministers right from 1960s and the local MLAs were also part of the State Cabinet from time to time.
On the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh announced Rs.32 lakh from his MP Fund for utilization in the eight Panchayats and issued instructions that the utilization of the amount should be done depending upon the priorities decided by the local people.
Dr Jitendra Singh took a review of all the Central Schemes and the targets achieved so far. He issued instructions that all the PMGSY roads in the area should be completed as per the All-India timeline fixed for March 2019. He also directed the expediting of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana for rural electrification and suggested that wherever there are issues of connection through Grid Stations in the hilly terrain, the alternative option of solar energy and solar power should be explored and utilized.
Earlier, soon after his arrival here, Dr Jitendra Singh was given a warm rousing welcome by the local population and was taken to the venue of the public meeting in the form of a traditional procession, in the backdrop of local folk music and hymns.
One after the other, the local Sarpanches and leaders, speaking on the occasion, said that they looked up to Dr Jitendra Singh not only as their MP, but as someone whom they truly loved from the core of their heart.
BJP district president Reasi, Kuldeep Dubey, senior State leader Sheel Magotra and other prominent local activists were present on the occasion.
The review of the Central Schemes and the MP Fund works was carried out by the senior officers of the district administration.
