BILLAWAR, Aug 23: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations held an awareness program on rights of reserved categories at Gurha Kalyal in Billawar Sub Division of district Kathua today.
State president of the Confederation, R K Kalsotra was the chief guest and main key speaker at the conference titled ‘ save constitution, save rights’.
While speaking on the occasion Kalsotra questioned the gathering about the future of SC/ST/OBCs and minorities in case the constitution gets amended with the provision of social justice deleted from it. He alleged that some vested interests in the society are hell bent to get the Constitution amended. He termed this as violation of the basic structure of the Constitution. He warned the concerned quarters against any such attempt.
He claimed that Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, an architect of the Indian Constitution provided social rights for the upliftment of the weaker sections. Though some progress has been made in this direction but still there was need to do more for such people. He said some classes were trying their best to harm the interests of reserved categories. He asked these communities to get united to wage struggle.
Meanwhile, Kathua unit of the Confederation led by Rattan Chand was also constituted on this occasion. Kalsotra felicitated the newly inducted members including vice presidents Shori Lal and Tara Chand Verma, Pawan Kumar- general secretary, Ravi Kumar- secretary, Dr Saroop Chand legal adviser and women wing president of the district unit -Krishna Devi.
Dev Soni, Rattan Chand, Shiv Dass, Dr Saroop Chand, Capt Tara Chand and Mahatma Nihal Chand also spoke on the occasion.
