Conductor killed, 35 injured as bus plunges into gorge

KATHUA, July 8: A conductor was killed, while 35 others received injuries, when the bus they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into gorge near Khanyara area on Kathua-Hatli road, here today.

The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02AG-4479 was on its way to Hatli from Kathua, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into gorge near Khanyara area, resulting into on the spot death of conductor and injuries to 35 others. The accident took place due to negligent and rash driving by the driver.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the help of locals.
All the injured persons were shifted to District Hospital Kathua in police and other vehicles, from where three injured persons identified as Lata Devi, Mahinder Kumar and Pankaj Kumar were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for advanced treatment.
The body of the deceased identified as Kashmir Singh has been shifted to mortuary of District Hospital for postmortem.
A case under Sections 279 and 304 RPC has been registered at Lakhanpur police station and hunt has been launched to arrest the driver, who managed to escape from the spot.
Meanwhile, Forest Minister Choudhary Lal Singh, MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia and Additional SP Khalil Poswal visited the District Hospital Kathua and enquired about the health of the injured persons.
Minister and MLA directed the hospital administration to provide best health care facilities to the injured persons.
