Conduct fresh survey to find out destitute, downtrodden girls: DB

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Jan 2: High Court today directed the authorities to carry out a fresh survey to find out the destitute and downtrodden girls for providing them assistance as per the schemes launched by the Government.
The direction came to be passed after some girls appeared in person before the Division Bench of Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey with an application mentioning therein their whole bio-data.
These girls submitted before the DB that the survey earlier conducted by the authorities (Social Welfare Department and Deputy Commissioners of all districts) is not fool proof. “The respondent-state and its authorities are directed to conduct another survey, as well, to identify the girls who are living below poverty line”, DB directed after taking the application of these girls on record along with their full particulars.
Appearing counsel for respondents sought time and court granted him four weeks to file fresh compliance report in this regard with a condition that in case the same is not filed then Commissioner Secretary, SWD to appear in person before the court on next date.
DB while passing the direction about fresh survey also made it clear to the authorities that the exercise shall not be taken as an excuse for stopping grant of benefits which are being given to identified girls. “Respondents must comply with earlier directions and give benefits to those identified girls”, DB further added and sought fresh report about fresh survey before the next date from the authorities.
