Concern over slow pace of conservation of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex

Newly formed Heritage Development Society members at a meeting at Jammu on Saturday.

JAMMU, Sept 15:  The first meeting of Jammu Heritage Development Society (JHDS) was held here today under the Chairmanship of Y. V. Sharma, President Chamber of Commerce & Industries  in which Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and President Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS), was elected as its Chairman.
The meeting further constituted the Executive as well as other Sub-Committees to look after various affairs of the Society.
It expressed concern over the slow pace of restoration and Conservation of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex for which State as well as Central Governments have already sanctioned about Rs 100 crore.
The meeting said that in case the complex buildings are not preserved immediately they will collapse.
Members, were of the opinion that effective monitoring and management of the Mubarak Mandi complex is needed by the State Government as well as by the Society to protect it from risk of fire, for its security and parking of vehicles and against damage to the buildings due to rains towards hill slopes.
The meeting also expressed concern over the slow progress of Ropeway Project, Tawi River front Project, Conservation & Preservation of ancient temples which can attract the visiting yatries of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji in the city of Temples.
The meeting among others was addressed by Y. V. Sharma, President CCI, Jammu, B. S. Slathia, President Bar Association, Jammu, Chander Gulhati, MD National Garage, Prof. Zahu-ud-Din, S. M. Sahni, former Director Tourism, Sohail Kazmi, Lalit Gupta Art Historian, A. S. Wazir, CE (Retd.) Vikram Spolia, general secretary BAJ,  Ajay Sharma, Senior Advocate Central Government. Standing Council, J&K High Court.
Mr Charak explained about the need to preserve the heritage wealth of Jammu which is very essential to attract the millions of yatries/tourists visiting J&K.
He also assured his whole hearted efforts for the Society as well as for conservation and preservation of heritage which will boost the economy of the State in general and Jammu Province in particular.
